It’s hard to balance everything. It’s always challenging. I think it’s an old fashioned notion that fashion needs to be exclusive to be fashionable. When I was young, I lived like an old woman, and when I got old, I had to live like a young person. First I made a dress because I was pregnant and I wanted to be the most beautiful pregnant woman. Then I made a sweater because I wanted to have one that wasn’t like anyone else’s. I’m an accomplice to helping women get what they want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Confidence. If you have it, you can make anything look good.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

I believe in comfort. If you don’t feel comfortable in your clothes, it’s hard to think of anything else. I try to contrast; life today is full of contrast… We have to change. I have my favourite fashion decade, yes, yes, yes: ’60s. It was a sort of little revolution; the clothes were amazing but not too exaggerated. It is important to be chic. First I made a dress because I was pregnant and I wanted to be the most beautiful pregnant woman. Then I made a sweater because I wanted to have one that wasn’t like anyone else’s. I am not interested in the past, except as the road to the future. The great thing about fashion is that it always looks forward. Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity. I am convinced that you don’t need to spend a fortune to look like a million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to be chic. I wish I had invented blue jeans. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes. Elegance isn’t solely defined by what you wear. It’s how you carry yourself, how you speak, what you read. Clothes mean nothing until someone lives in them. I think in the darkest moments, we need a break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Go to a place where you’re not going to be stressed, because a \nhoneymoon itself can be a stressful thing. Nostalgia is a very \ncomplicated subject for me. I’m attracted by nostalgia but I refuse it \nintellectually. I’ve always thought of the T-shirt as the Alpha and \nOmega of the fashion alphabet.
